Baby to Boston

 
 

On April 21st I was part of an amazing athletic race - The Boston Marathon.  When I qualified for Boston I knew I couldn't miss this opportunity for a second time so of course I was going to go, but I was worried about all of the training.  After taking a 2 week mental and physical break from running I had a talk with Diane about my concerns.  By the end of that day Diane had sent me a new training schedule for my running.  This training schedule was different than anything else I had ever done - finally I wasn't just running day after day!  This schedule made me stronger than I had ever been.  When I was feeling my best I decided to talk with Diane about my nutrition, a subject she is very knowledgeable on.  Her sports nutrition program made me feel even stronger and more confident.  It gave me a pre-race eating ritual that helps sooth the nerves.  The day of the marathon I didn't question if what I was eating was right or if the time I was eating it was right.  With Diane's training schedule, 3 days a week sports specific workout class and sports nutrition guidelines I was able to finish the Boston Marathon with a Personal Record - 3:34:14.  Thank you for all of your help and support!  Shelbey

"A year ago I was sitting on the end of my bed crying to Obie (my husband) because I felt like I had lost myself.  I just had Drake and was over 140 lbs. - I had never weighed this much before (besides when I was pregnant of course).  I felt like there was a layer of fat over my entire body.  I could not stand to look in mirror and see my body - it was disgusting.  I did not want to go anywhere because of the way I looked - I could not fit into any of my clothes, besides my sweatshirts and sweatpants.  I told Obie I was going to run another marathon because I needed to get the weight off.  He reminded me how I complained the whole time I was training the first time I ran my marathon because I felt like I was running to a schedule not running because I enjoyed it.  We had a long talk that day and I'll always remember him telling me that I needed to find something I loved doing - then staying in shape wouldn't be so hard.  I use to write exercising down on my list of the things to do for the day and check it off when I was done.  Obie said he would never write Mountain Bike Ride down on his daily list - it was not a chore that had to be completed - it was something he loved to do and would love to do everyday if he had the time.  Throughout our conversation your name came up and I said I was going to give you a try.  Obie said if you think that will work than go for it.  In the back of my mind I was wondering if I would ever find something I really enjoyed and that would help keep me in shape.  I was wondering if your classes would be something I would stick to - or would it be a month long gimmick like all the other stuff I have tried.  I have joined a handful of gyms, done all the classes they offer, bought every tape off the TV you can imagine (The Firm, Power 90 & Pilates to name a few) and every time I saw some new piece of equipment on TV promising a 6 pack or a firm butt I'd buy it. To say the least my track record wasn't very good.  The first day I joined your class I was hooked.  I have been going to you now for almost a year and I am more excited now about it than the day that I started.  You truly have a gift for what you do.  You are so motivating, encouraging and positive.  At the same time you are strict and don't let us get away with anything - which is great!  Your classes offer so much variety - you could never get bored.  You are so knowledgeable on the subject of fitness and nutrition - it is inspiring.  I want to thank you so much for helping me find the one thing I love to do to stay in shape.  I am totally addicted to your classes.  I can only imagine what I will look and feel like in one more year.  Thank you for being amazing!"

“I am absolutely thrilled with the results that I’ve achieved since January 2, 2008.  My workouts with Diane have tremendously helped to produce these results and it’s exciting!  To date, I’ve lost 35 pounds and have gone from a size 16 to a size 8.  Believe me, it’s been a challenge to consistently stay focused on the weight training, cardio exercise and nutrition program, but it’s a very simple formula to follow and it does work!

After following Diane’s recommended nutrition program, I now have a stable level of energy throughout the day – an amazing accomplishment from someone who previously had sugar craving highs and lows throughout the day.  Family and friends have commented on my glow and smaller size and I love it.

In February, I set my fitness goal to run the entire Shamrock'n 5km Race (3.1 mile) scheduled on March 16, 2008.  When I registered for the race, I had no idea what kind of shape I would be in or if I would be able to run the entire distance.  I got focused and slowly built up from walking to running a couple miles.  Race day quickly came and I felt energized and ready to go.  I was so thrilled to cross the finish line...running the entire distance!  Now that I'm in better shape, I'm preparing myself for my next fitness goal to complete a 10km race on May 17, 2008.  Much like Diane's fitness program, this will be challenging, yet achievable.

 “Since I had my son 3 ½ years ago, I have struggled to get focused and lose that last bit of weight and get back into my pre-baby clothes.  Previously, I had been involved in Triathlon & Adventure Racing events, and had worked with a personal trainer so knew what I could be.  I tried a few times on my own the last couple years but never stuck to anything.  It becomes much harder to dedicate and commit consistently when you have a family and I was always finding excuses!  I finally decided it was time – I was not happy with how I looked or felt.  I told my husband I wanted to hire a personal trainer for a short period of time – he was fully supportive.  In my search, I found Diane.  Her background was what interested and motivated me – and she looks incredible – proof that she knows what she is doing and lives what she teaches.  Not always the case in many personal trainers you meet.  She recommended me to try her Boot Camp class – a small group format focusing on core functional training.  WOW – I am definitely hooked.  In one month I dedicated myself to the Boot Camp and her nutrition program – she kept me honest and accountable to what I was doing and eating – I am already more than half way to my goal!  The small group format is awesome – not only do you get Diane’s support but also support from the others in the group – I am not sure I will ever be able to go back to the ‘boring gym’ on my own.  We never have the same routine and you wonder – what will she come up with today J!  Thanks to Diane for getting me back on track to what I know I can be – my husband thanks you too!”

11 Week Success

I started working out with Diane on October 19, 2007.  A friend and I were going to Hawaii in February, 2008 and I really didn't want to look like one of the whales that the tourist were going to Hawaii to see.  Now, don't get me wrong, I had been working out often at a local gym (on my own).  I had lost a couple of pounds over several months but at that rate it would have taken me a year to take off the weight that I've gotten down to with the short amount of time that I have worked out with Diane.  In 11 weeks working out with Diane I had lost 22 pounds.  I was shopping in my closet for clothes that I hadn't worn in years.  And the great part about it was that they were finally fitting me again.  Diane puts so much variety in her workouts that your body never gets a chance to get use to any particular routine.  I've been on her nutrition program since the beginning and I'm feeling fantastic. Diane is very motivating and yet she pushes you because she knows your potential. I leave her workouts,  sweaty,  tired,  exhausted,  inspired,  motivated,  and completely ready to take on the day.  When I miss a workout, I'm so mad at myself I could just scream.  I still have a ways to go.  My next goal is this SUMMER. My friends and family keep me motivated with their comments.  It's so cool to hear them tell me how awesome I'm looking.  I'm getting nothing but positive out of my experience working with Diane.
