Breakout Fitness & Adventure Club!!
(Scroll down and check out our fun adventures below)

This club is for women who want to be involved with other women who are active, compete, and most of all who have a sense of adventure.  This is all about breaking out of the box, girls!  Join us in trying a new sport, like running, kayaking, cycling, swimming, rock climbing, duathlons, triathlons…you name it.  You can train with us whether you plan to compete or not.  You can compete individually or on a team with us.  If competition is not your thing, we would love your support!!

How about a new adventure or just getting out in nature with the girls.  We are always in planning new adventures, including hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing, canyoneering, and so much more.  If there’s anything you’d like to try, let us know.

I’m looking forward to a great year of personal growth and having a ton of fun along the way.  I hope you join us so you can experience it, too.

In health and happiness,
Diane

Breakout Fitness and Adventure Club organizes adventures purely for the enjoyment of women.  Expenses incurred are the responsibility of each individual.

Diane captures 3rd Place at Eppie's Great Race!!

July 21, 2007

This was my first time competing in Eppie's Great Race and I can't begin to tell you how much fun it was.  I had competed on triathlon teams, but I had never done a complete triathlon and the reason is I am not a very good swimmer.  Well...Eppie's does not include swimming, but instead includes a kayak leg.  I was encouraged by my swim coach (Marc) to compete in Eppie's because, as he said, I can run, I can cycle and I can kayak...well...sort of...I had some kayaking experience.
Since Marc had faith in me I got really excited and so I immediately went home after that swim lesson, logged onto the Eppie's website and registered for the race...scared as heck!!  The reason I was scared was because I had a little scary kayak incident on the river a couple of years ago, which resulted in a couple of scars on my legs and fear in my head, so the thought of it had kept me from competing in Eppie's in previous years.  Well...I was now registered and committed, so I immediately signed up for kayak classes through CCK, which included learning how to get down the river safely and how to pick the best lines, especially through the challenging San Juan rapids, which is where I had the incident.
The kayak classes and a few river runs with Brian gave me the confidence I needed to get down the river and through the San Juan rapids.  By July 21st, I was ready and excited.  I woke up Saturday morning feeling confident and excited...I couldn't stop smiling all day...as you can see in the pictures.
After the race, I checked the results, and I could not believe I took 3rd place in my division, Ironwoman 50+.  I was jumping up and down for joy!!!
In retrospect, I know I could have trained harder, I know I could have pushed myself harder, so next year I am going to come back and do even better...and I can't wait.
I would like to encourage anyone reading this to just do it...like the Nike motto...and have fun.  I feel so wonderful to have placed third...which by the way...my goal is always to finish in the top three in my age group.  It really helps to have a goal and a visual of what you would like the outcome to look like.
I had such a great time training for this event.  I loved the training.  I felt very balanced.  I had periodized my training - running, cycling and kayaking to peak for the event and it worked beautifully.  I felt great during the race and still had energy left at the end.  By the way, I got through the race without flipping my kayak!!! I hope you enjoy looking at my pictures...
The first picture is of me strategically placing my bike in the transition area before the race.  The second picture is of Anita from News10...she's one of my clients.  You can see me on the News10 website...check out this link... http://www.news10.net/display_story.aspx?storyid=30614 ... then click on the video link (Thanks Anita!!).
A very, very special thank you to Brian for the pictures and video and for sacrificing so much of your time to help me.  Thank you Anita, Cristina, Shannon, Brenna, Danell, Mike and Reagan for all your race day support!!  More thanks to Anita for running all over the place to get it on video; Cristina for the Team Cressey shirts; Shannon and Brenna for your awesome spirit and the "Go Cressey" sign; and my brother Mike and niece Reagan who drove all the way from Chico to support me.  It meant so much to me that you were all there...you made the day very special!!

Other Breakout Fitness girls who competed in Eppie's Great Race are Shelbey Miller and Jessica Balaam.  Here's a photo of Jessica who finished with a great time!!  Great job, Jessica!!    Shelbey competed on a team as the runner, along with her husband, Obie (cyclist) and dad (kayaker)...great job, Shelbey!!  Shelbey wants to do the Ironwoman division next year :-)

Calistoga Ranch Fitness/Spa Getaway!!

May 8 - 11, 2007

Six of us (Shannon, Corrine, Lisa, Colleen, Nancy and me-Diane) had an unbelievably great time on this trip.  We stayed three nights and four days at Calistoga Ranch, a beautiful, luxury resort located just outside of beautiful Calistoga.  We ate healthily, exercised every day and treated ourselves to relaxing spa time.  After arriving on Tuesday, we set out for a bike ride and then a beautiful hike to the Old Grist Mill (see first pic).  Afterward, we pampered ourselves by relaxing in the luxurious "Bath House" at the Ranch...aaaaahhh (see 2nd and 3rd pic).  Wednesday morning, we worked out and then hiked on a beautiful trail located on the Ranch (you can see the beautiful view near the top of the mountain in the 4th pic below).  After our hike, we set out for a fun day of shopping in St. Helena, then dinner and a yummy, gooey, chocolaty dessert (ooops...I guess this was our free day).  Thursday, we worked out, went to a yoga class, ate a delicious, healthy breakfast, then we were picked up by a limousine to go wine tasting...fun, fun, fun, fun, fun girl time!!  Did I mention that we had fun?  Thursday night, we ate a healthy and delicious dinner at Go-Fish...our waiter was quite the comedian and made us laugh so hard while taking our picture that my face hurt (see the  pic)  Hey, Nance, how about a little sushi with your wasabi??  Whew...what a girl...isn't she so cute???  I don't know anyone who looks that cute while shoving a whole piece of sushi in ;-)  Friday, we enjoyed a massage, more hiking, relaxing pool time and more delicious food.  Can't wait for the next adventure!!
Thank you thank you, thank you sooooo much, Shannon, for inviting us to spend these four amazing days at the Calistoga Ranch...now we know how the other half lives.  How fun it was to be treated like royalty.  We will remember this trip for a very long time!!

Our first official Breakout Fitness and Adventure Club trip!!
Mt. Tamalpais day hike - Sunday, February 4, 2007

Corrine, Debbie and myself spent an entire day hiking Mt. Tamalpais…with the exception of our lounging and meditation time on Stinson Beach…which was heavenly!!  It was an absolutely beautiful day.

Here are a few photos for your viewing pleasure…

Note from Corrine...
"I had such a great time. It was physically challenging and a great workout but it was also a great spiritual workout because it allowed me time to go inside of myself to reflect, focus and get centered. Of course spending time with other women is always great."  ~ Big Hugs, Corrine
